We run an annual series of termly RE-based events for years 5 & 6 in Shipley and the Spen Valley, as well as supporting the set-up of these events in Clayton, Wrose, Low Moor and other areas of Bradford. Originally based on Scripture Union material, the Re:wind series uses a combination of games, craft, activities, film clips, stories and teaching, to help children develop their understanding of Christian festivals.
School groups visit a central location, usually at the same time as classes from another local school, contributing to community cohesion. They are organised into small groups for a mix of upfront and group activities, each one led by one of our registered volunteers.
The cycle of events begins in year 5 with Re:wind to Easter, in March/April, taking children through the events of Holy Week, from Palm Sunday, through the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, to Easter Sunday.
In year 6, children attend Re:wind to Christmas in early December, learning about the Christmas story and why Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. They then return in June/July for Fast Forward, exploring some of the excitement and anxieties associated with the transition to secondary school. For this event, children are placed into mixed groups, enabling them to meet children from other primary schools who will be going to the same secondary school as them.
Each event includes a craft activity (delivered by our staff to schools after the event) and an activity book to keep. We can work with churches to replicate these sessions in their communities.
